My new favorite website

I found the greatest, funniest website recently. The website is http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com. I have a few entries that brought tears to my eyes, but this one is my favorite.

What the customer said:
“So we’re throwing a going-away party for our friend, and we’d like you to write “Good luck at U.C.”, since that’s the college she’s going to. Also, she’s a big E.T. fan – you know, from the movie? – so we want to incorporate that somehow. I’ll leave it up to you; we just want something E.T.- related on it. Can you do that? Yeah? Cool! Thanks!”

What the decorator heard:
Blah blah blah, write blah E.T. blah blah on it. Blah.”
What the decorator was thinking:
“Okey doke, easy peasy, now I’ll just write '
Good Luck'... oh, wait: does 'good' have two 'o's or two 'd's? Dang. Oh well, I’ll just make this letter look a little like both. There! No one will notice anyway. Ok, and then: 'at…U.C…'...thank goodness that doesn’t need any periods; those are so hard to do with this icing! Ok, let’s see here…you know, I think I'm going to go the extra mile for these folks and write E.T. on it THREE times. And I’m pretty sure just the 'E' has a period… yeah, that looks right. Dum dee dum…. There! All done! Aw, they are just going to love me.”

Two Peas in a Pod

Kinley has finally found an actual, real life, human friend, she actually has a few human friends. Her name is Reese and she is seriously the cutest little girl. They are just the best of friends and play so cute together. Kinley pretty much stalks Reese and makes us drive by her house whenever we go anywhere. I think that in these pictures they look like some future Boise State fans, they have the right colors anyway. Reese will probably be a cheerleader or something girly like that, and Kinley will be the first girl on the football team or something a tomboyish like that. But for now, I am just so thankful that I get a break from taking care of Kinley's friends that are of the "stuffed" variety.
Reese came over today to have a "princess movie party" according to Kinley. We had lunch, popcorn, candy necklaces, and watched Barbie's Swan Lake. I think the party was a big success, according to Kinley, it was the best party ever.

Classic Kinley

You may all find this boring, but since this is my journal, you'll just have to suffer through it. This is one of my favorite videos of Kinley. She is about 18 months old and instead of learning real words, she just learned facial expressions and animal sounds.

Warning, incredibly contagious condition

Kinley has recently contracted the most horrible condition.  I'm not sure what the exact medical term is, but I have deemed it the "all by myselfs".  Apparently it is extremely contagious and seems to spread from an infected older child to younger toddlers.  Symptoms include a very flustered, irritated, and annoyed mother who is constantly running late because the infected toddler insisted on putting on their shoes "by myself", going potty "by myself", buckling the car seat "by myself", etc.  I think the condition is much harder on the parents than it is on the infected child.  The "all by myselfs" wouldn't be so bad if your toddler were actually physically capable of doing all of the tasks she insists on doing "by myself".  Unfortunately, there seems to be no cure.  So in the mean time, serenity now.

This is Kinley insisting that she take a picture of the two of us, by herself, because "we are so fun". Until Kinley took this picture of us, I hadn't realized that we really have no similar features, unless you count the fact that we both have brown eyes. And yes, I did chop my hair off. If Kinley's camera skills can improve some, I'll get her to take a picture of me to show you all.

Sometimes you just need to dance

I was busy fulfilling my duties as enrichment leader last night (yes, I know, totally hilarious that I am the enrichment leader, right) and had to miss So You Think You Can Dance.  While I was fixing Kinley's hair I made her watch it with me.  As soon as it started she got all panicky and said she couldn't watch this show.  She said, "I can't watch a dance show, I don't have my tutu on".  She runs "super fast" into her room to pick a tutu and says, "I need my blue one that Grandma Janice gived me.  It's so special.  Grandma Janice is beautiful."  I thought it was so sweet, especially because after I had finished getting ready she told me I was "kind of beautiful".  Once she had her tutu on, she proceeded to dance her little hiney off.  What a crazy kid.

Master of Disguise

Thanks to nickjr.com, Kinley and I spent the morning playing Super Secret Spy with the Master of Disguise kit I printed off.  We made ourselves some glasses, mustaches, watches, hot dog phones, and of course, our super spy note cards.  Kinley managed to keep herself occupied for over an hour.  I always say anything that keeps your kid busy for at least 20 minutes is worth its weight in gold.  Kinley told me to take her picture while she was being "The Lady in Pink".  Then, she needed one without her glasses while she was eating a cookie so that I would know who she was.

Signs your daughter might be a tom boy

  1. Your daughter's shins are completely covered in bruises and her clothes always have grass stains on them because she just plays that rough.
  2. While having game night at a friend's house, your daughter comes upstairs without a shirt on because she is the Hulk.
  3. After a doctor's appointment, your daughter is given a basket full of stickers and told to     chose one.  Your daughter choses a Batman sticker.
  4. Your daughter tells you that when it is "trick or treat time", she wants to be Mulan, but not Mulan when she has the pretty white face.  She wants to be "Mulan when she is the soldier on the mountain".
  5. When telling you about the elaborate birthday party your 2 year old is throwing herself, she informs you that she would like a Shan Yu cake.  Yes, that would be the bad guy in Mulan.  She is also having 4 parades, so stay tuned for that.
On a positive note, I am a tom boy myself, so I am not really to beat up about this.  Also, she is still pretty darn cute and does have cute "girl clothes".  Maybe she'll just be femininely athletic. That's possible, right?

New flu remedy

This weekend Kinley and I were lucky enough to be hit with a lovely little flu bug.  Kinley started it on Thursday with, as she calls them, "the pukes" and "the diarrhea".  She was fine on Friday, maybe a bit lethargic, then started with "the pukes" first thing Saturday morning.  Then, of course, it was my turn.  After Kinley threw up for the second time, she was kind of crying and saying she had an owie in her tummy.  She then insisted that Daddy put a band-aid on her tummy so it would feel better.  I, not having perfect child-like faith in a band-aid, opted not to have one on my tummy.  Naturally, the band-aid worked and Kinley was pretty much fine for the rest of the day.  I, on the other hand, spent the majority of the day in the bathroom trying to convince somebody to put me out of my misery.  Kinley was kind enough to come and rub my face or my back while saying things like, "oh sweetheart" and "it's okay mommy, you're going to be okay".  Next time, I'm just going to ask for a band-aid.
